How much extra flooring should I buy?
Add 10% for a simple rectangular room laid in straight rows. Rooms with lots of corners, alcoves or a bay window need more cutting, so use 15%. Herringbone and diagonal layouts can need 15–20%.
Before you lay it
Most laminate and wood flooring needs to sit in the room for about 48 hours before fitting so it adjusts to the temperature and humidity. Leave an expansion gap around the edges as the manufacturer recommends, and cover it with skirting or beading. Always follow the fitting instructions on your pack.
